Team mobility, diffusion and transfer of ions in solids

Explore the research group

As part of his Lower Saxony professorship, Prof. Dr. Paul Heitjans spent his research investigating the mobility, diffusion, and dynamics of ions in solids – a key area of solid-state electrochemistry. He focused on fundamental questions about how structural disorder, low dimensionality, and nanoscale structures affect ionic conductivity. In addition to lithium, sodium and fluoride ions were also investigated with regard to their mobility and environment using solid-state NMR and impedance spectroscopy. In addition, the group dealt with mechanochemistry, in particular the synthesis of nanocrystalline and nanoglass materials through mechanical activation.
